Looking for the best books for your two-year-old? Look no further than this list of my top picks, from a mama of two littles (ages 3 and 2). From stories about llamas and caterpillars, to modern doses of wee wisdom, these board books are sure to become story time favorites. Reading aloud to children is one of the most important things that adults can do to foster their success in school and in life.

That's why we've put together a list of our favorite books for two-year-olds, perfect for reading aloud and sharing with your little ones. These board books are full of bright illustrations and simple stories that toddlers will love. Plus, they're durable enough to withstand all of the hugging, chewing, and dropping that comes with a two-year-old!

Llama Llama Gives Thanks

We have a few sets of holiday books that only come out once per year, but Llama Llama Gives Thanks is in year-round rotation at our house. Scholastic Book Club ranks this as one of their top choices! I love the fall spirit of this book.

My daughter prefers this title over the original Llama Llama Red Pajama, which is also a great choice. Full of rhymes and crescendo, the original ranks high for me!

Pink Is for Boys by Robb Pearlman

As a parent, I know that raising kids can be challenging at times. One of my biggest goals is to help my children feel empowered to express themselves freely, without feeling shame or guilt about their preferences.

When my daughter got a brother, her favorite "color" was "pink, purple, and red." We already had lots of hand me downs for boys, and many of them she wore without issue. We quickly realized that girl-specific clothes are much harder to put on boys than vice-versa. Lace and ruffles just don't sit quite right on a boy.

Questioning my own stereotypes, this book jumped out at me as a must read. It has such simple sentence structure that my 3-year-old quickly memorized it and now "reads" it to our 2-year-old. Highly recommend the story for its simple messaging!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

This classic tale of a caterpillar who eats his way through an entire week's worth of food is a must-have for any toddler's library. The die-cut pages are easy for little fingers to turn, and the colorful illustrations will captivate your child's attention from beginning to end.

With its brightly colored illustrations and simple text, this book is perfect for toddlers just beginning to learn their colors and numbers. Additionally, the story provides a great opportunity to talk about healthy eating habits with your toddler.

I believe we got 3 copies of this book from our baby showers. My favorite is the dual-language version (Spanish/English)!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen & Helen Oxenbury

This beloved classic tells the story of a family's adventurous quest to see a bear. As they wade through grass, mud, and more, young readers will be entranced by the rhythm and repetition of the text. They might even be inspired to go on their own adventure!

We enjoy singing our own made-up versions of this story, like "we're going to the playground" or even to the doctor. Anything to pass the time and lighten the mood when you have little ones to entertain!
